- A 12 hole fairy cake tin
- 12 paper cake cases
- A heat resistant bowl
- A pan for the bowl to rest over
- Mixing spoons for you and your little helpers!
Ingredients
This straightforward recipe requires very few ingredients. Here's what you require:
- 225g (8 oz) plain or milk chocolate
- 2 tbsp golden syrup
- 50g (2 oz) butter
- 85g (3 oz) shredded wheat cereal
- 36 chocolate mini eggs
Chocolate Easter egg nest cakes recipe method
- Line the fairy cake tin with the 12 paper cases.
- Break the chocolate into small pieces and place in the bowl with the golden syrup and butter.
- Place the bowl over a pan of gently simmering water, and melt the chocolate, stirring until the mixture is smooth and silky.
[Pro tip: Don't let the bottom of the bowl touch the water, as this will cause the mixture to cook and become lumpy.]
- Remove the bowl from the heat, and add the crushed shredded wheat. Stir until all of the cereal is coated in chocolate.
- Carefully spoon the mixture equally into the 12 paper cases. Decorate each cake by gently pressing 3 mini chocolate eggs onto the top.
- Place the cakes in the fridge to chill for an hour, or until they are firm and set.
And that's all there is to it! An easy and fun Easter activity for all the family.
